P2P WASH Project

The Governments of Benin and The Netherlands developed the Benin Netherlands WASH Programme (GNWP) in 2012, to stimulate private sector involvement and financing at both micro and macro levels to ensure sustainability for WASH investments and services.

However, a gap was observed in the integration of the private sectors since most players in the WASH space operate at Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) levels. A meso-financing structure was therefore urgently required.

In an effort to bridge the gap, Fema Bank in collaboration with its development partner is receiving funding to the tune of €4,000,000 from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) to Benin, under the Benin-Netherlands WASH programme, for commercial lending to fund scalable and sustainable projects to accelerate access to WASH.

The project dubbed P2P: Catalysing WASH from Possible to Profitable is intended to scale-up access to finance and technical assistance for households and MSMEs in Benin and is being implemented over a five (5) year term. Other benefits accompanying the project include the following:

  • Technical Advisory Services
  • Certified Capacity Building workshops from the Fema SME Business Academy
  • Expedited Credit Decision Processes
  • Flexible Collateral Requirements
  • Dedicated Relationship Manager
  • Discounted interest rate and fees on P2P WASH credit
